Through some research i was basically able to figure out the general jist of the question. My point though, is that what thom had us do was a perfect example of living in the information age. by using the the internet and some basic search techniques, i was able to piece together several pieces of information and figure out the final question of what would be on our final exam.

so, after hearing all about it, after seeing the group presentations on it. i gave in. i bought world of warcraft. i wanted to see if it lived up to all the hype, let alone the pricetag. the answer?

yes. i think it does. it's a pretty fun game, and a good way to waste time. the pricetag you may ask? i'm still undecided on this. i think as i progress more through the game i might be able to give you an answer, but not yet.

it's basically like no other game i've played before. there is an entire interactive community of 5 million people that play this game from all over the world. this shocks me, and it also makes me wonder how much blizzard, the developer, really makes off of this game. the video game industry must make so much money. i never really gave it much though, but after recently buying this game, i realized just how much of an economic impact these games can have.

My mom and I had an encounter with technology today. She had an application I needed to fill out for the job I plan on having this summer, and living two hours away from her proved to be a problem. She attempted to scan the application several times, each time with varying degrees of success. The first time, it was much to large; the second much to small. I tried helping her, but eventually we just had to use normal mail.

This leads me to believe that some people are technologically deficient. Not to say my mother is, as I believe she is very smart, but I think that sometimes technology can get the better of us. Technology has come to play a large part in our everday lives, and if you are technologically deficient, then you are going to have some problems participating in normal society. This also leads me to wonder if there are classes or some kind of service to teach people how to use the everchanging technology that we use in our everday life. I might have to do some research and find out.

So now my ipod is compelety broken. the whole loss of the headphones seems to be just a small loss compared to losing the whole thing. It's amazing how such a small piece of technology can be so incredibly addicting. Apple seriously must be making a fortune off of these things, even though they already are making a fortune off of every other piece of technology they sell.

Then earlier last week there was the group that did the presentation on internet addiction, which really peaked my interest. I'm addicted to the internet. Most of what I do; school, homework, socializing to an extent, revolves around the internet. This also makes me wonder, would my life be better or worse if the internet had never been developed? An interesting question, to be sure.

This past week I lost the headphones for my IPod, and it made me realize how much I have come to rely on it. Without my IPod my walks to classes have become almost boring, as I have nothing to do but look at the scenery, even though this isn't a bad thing. I can't play music in my room either because it would become far to annoying for my roommate who has a much much different taste in music than I do.

This whole "situation" has kind of striked me as surprising. Being American, I was led to believe that Al Jazeera wasn't a news source so to speak, but more of a porpaganda website. I ended up looking it up, and it turns out to be nothing more than a middle-eastern CNN. I think that this alone proves that we are led to believe many wrong things here in America, and if we were to just research a little more and and look around, we could learn much much more than is told to us.

So as I was walking to class today, I noticed a mailman taking mail out of one of the roadside mailboxes. As he was finishing up, I noticed two things. The first was that the key to open the mail box was on a long chain and always attached to the mailman. That made sense, I figured it was for security reasons. The second was that he scanned a label on the inside of the mailbox with a small laser gun. This didn't make much sense, but as I think about it, it seems to be a bit clearer. I figure that this is a way to track the mail. The scanning of the label tells when the mail was collected, by who, and how much. All this just proves how much technology has become a part of our lives.

Well, this being my first post, I guess I should say a bit about myself. My name is Chris, I'm 19 and attend Indiana University. The whole point of this blog is to talk about my life and the Information Age, and how living in it affects me. So let's get into it.

The Information Age has a huge impact on my life. Without things such as computers, televisions, telephones, or even newspapers, there woudl be no way of getting news and crucial information. This week I've gotten news from television, telephone, the internet, and newspapers. This alone shows how the technology affects my life. Music plays a big part in my life. I listen to music all the time, and without certain technologies, I'd never be able to hear the music.

The Information Age is definately a crazy time to live in, but I'm glad I do. More to come in a couple days.
